The sun was just peaking over the horizon, striking the sky with fiery hues. Tall blades of grass, wet with dew, rustle with the sound of slow movement as a river trickles and weaves around rocks nearby. A shadow lurks through the surrounding river terrain. When a soft blow of the wind the reeds part to reveal a feline figure, black and white fur intermix in a tuxedo pattern. White paws etch into the damp ground, and as the she-cat inched closer to the river a reflection rippled. Light green eyes shimmered in the water. A crescent shaped scar clearly visible across the cats left eye. This must have been Moonshadow, the RiverClan medicine cat. A cool breath curled around the air from the feline. "Now where could it be.." her voice spoke softly as Moonshadow's eyes swiveled back and fourth along the shore of the river. She had no interest in the fish that were dazedly swimming in the clear water, instead her interest were fully on the plants that were living amongst the damp earth . A slender black tail behind the she-cat flicked in irritation. Taking in a breath the black and white medicine cat started to pad along the river bed, her paws etching into the soft ground. Her eyes still fixed along the ground. Thoughts pondering through her head 'This would be much easier with a Apprentice.' a sigh escaping from the feline's mouth as it opened wide. Different scents engulfed Moonshadow's mouth, she knew it was near, she could taste it. But the hard part was pin pointing where it was.

The little kitten had snuck her way out of camp, a second time. She remembered last time she had snuck her way out of the camp, but she had been with an apprentice and another kit at the time where she nearly drowned. Rosekit made her way up beside the river, leaning forward and dabbing her paw at the top of the river. It wasn't nearly as fast now as it had been when she fell in, and it had been a mistake on her part anyways.
"Hello fishies!" she purred to the beautiful rainbow-colored fish. The tabby she-cat sat up again and walked down a little bit, noticing something pretty by the bottom of the river. It was standing higher up, not far from the surface. She tried to reach out, and only managed to touch it. Rosekit thought about what she was doing, if she got caught she could fall in again, and this time there weren't any cats around to catch her. Though, she tried reaching out again, using her claw to puncture the plant and pulling it out.
A purr rumbled in the kitten's throat as she pulled it closer to her. /Now where could it be../ she heard farther down the river, and swiftly knew the voice of Moonshadow. Rosekit had spent about a moon in Moonshadow's den, and had learned some of the herbs, only on mistake though just from hearing the medicine cat talk about it. Rosekit picked up the plant she had found between her jaws and ran over to where Moonshadow was, "Hi, Moonshadow!" she said cheerfully, as she often was, "You're looking for a plant?" she put her little prize down by her paws, and knew that even if it hadn't been what Moonshadow was looking for, she was still proud to have managed to fish something out of the water, since she had the fear of falling in again.

The medicine cat had to been to focused on smelling the direction of the herb to even pick up the scent of the young kitten. Her white paws stained with dirt for the time being from the she-cats trek along the shore. The sun was still rising up, at about 10o'clock in the sky the air began to loose its chill. Moonshadow's white whiskers quivered as she decided to damp her tongue into the water beside her getting a refreshing drink. This is when the she-cat noticed the kit's scent, her eyes grew wide 'What is her scent doing so near the water?' she thought to herself. But as Moonshadow's green eyes gazed around she had not spotted Rosekit. This worried her, the feline had not picked up another scent around other then the kittens, and Moonshadow well knew Rosekit's reputation outside of camp. Black ears rotating around on the top of the she-cats head, and then out of the corner of her eye she saw the little kitten. /'Hi Moonshadow. You're looking for a plant?'/ The black and white medicine cat heard before turning to Rosekit. "Why are you outside of the camp alone?" she was very stern with her words but still had a kindness to them. When she spotted the plant that the kit had put down, the feline's attention instantly went to that. Bending down the Medicine cat took in the scent of the plant, it was exactly was she was looking for, "Watermint..." looking up to the kitten she asked "Where did you find this?". The medicine cat was even more curious to how a kitten would coincidentally come across a herb and decide to pick it, many would just leave herbs alone. Noticing on how close they both where to the river Moonshadow picked up the herb in her mouth and looked at Rosekit "Come, lets go over to that patch of dry grass over there" her shadow black tail pointed a couple fox lengths away from the water. Waiting for the kitten to move before she did, still worried about the kits safety. Once the medicine cat got the location of the herb out of Rosekit then her focus would instantly redirect on why such a young cat was doing out here by herself, especially near the river.

Rosekit was pleased to hear the medicine cat wanted to get away from the river, and the tortishell kitten nearly went full speed before coming to a stop in the little area where Moonshadow had pointed out. It was a quaint little spot, where the sun still peaked through the tree tops, so Rosekit easily found a spot to lay down and get warm, although there were no problems getting warm around this time of year.
But, now she took her time to sit up and answer the questions that'd been pelted at her. /Why are you outside of the camp alone?/ Rosekit understood this. It had been Moonshadow who came to her rescue after one of the apprentices scooped Rosekit out of the river, nearly drowning. She looked down at her white paws and back up at the medicine cat, "Well, I wanted to see how long I could sit by water without freaking out. I'm going to eventually end up a warrior, right?"
Next question, where Rosekit had found the little plant that Moonshadow had called watermint. "Well," she started off, sitting upright, "Since I wanted to try sitting near the river, I was just walking along and found something pretty growing in the river. I wanted to pick it, and heard that you needed some plant. I figured if it wasn't what you wanted, I could take it back and put it in my nest as a reminder of the time that I was able to go to and back from the river successfully." she said, her tail flickering back and forth with happiness.
Rosekit was proud to have been able to make it all the way to the river, though she was a little afraid that Moonshadow would get upset with Rosekit for doing such a thing. Rosekit leaned down and sniffed the plant that she had given to Moonshadow and popped up, "Watermint!" she exclaimed happily, "I remember you gave this to me when I came back, it helps bellyaches, right?" Rosekit felt better, knowing that even though she had come out here alone, she would return home with maybe a little praise.

Her shadow black pelt soaked up the warm sun rays, a sheen reflecting off of it from water constantly smoothing it down when swimming. Closing her left eye slightly, the crescent scar was clearly visible, looking like a moon sliver. Moonshadow sat up tall, her black tail wrapping around her delicate white paws. She looked down at the young kitten with her soft green eyes, usually you wouldn't see a black cat with green eyes, but if you were to look closely you would see a shimmer of gold around Moonshadow's pupil.
"Its good that your trying to be brave, but you shouldnt come out alone. You could have asked someone if you could go out and ask them to go with you." her voice was in a calm tone. Moonshadow was not known to be one to lash out much, when she was younger her sister had constantly scolded her and ended up her parents punishing her sister. Her family ended violently, never becoming much of a fighter. "It was very keen of you though to have picked up the Watermint. Though I must have to warn you about picking up stray plants, you wouldnt want to pick up the wrong one." she said, but then her thoughts fadded to when the kit talked about her becoming a warrior. Moonshadow's deep green eyes looked over the young kit and then to the watermint "Well you would need to be able to sit near the water in any position, even as a warrior or a medicine cat." for some reason she had put a little more emphasis on the medicine cat part. She saw how proud the kit was for finding the herb, and the black and white cat purred. "Yes that is correct, Watermint is used for bellyaches." Moonshadow said kindly and flicked her tail over the young kittens head in approval of her knowledge "Very smart."
Looking up at the sky she saw that the sun was practically at sun high, "It seems that we should be heading back, now that I know the location of the Watermint it should be more easier to find. Also your parents must be worried sick about you" Moonshadow said standing up and stretching her legs. Then down and touching her nose to the watermint "Say would you like to help me and carry the Watermint back to camp for me?" she asked with a purr.

Rosekit knew that Moonshadow would have been at least a little upset in the fact that she had snuck out on her own, and Rosekit bit her tounge a little bit, remembering that she had tried to come out as a secret anyways, not wanting to be caught. But as the medicine cat's voice hadn't been so stern, she was a little bit happier, and as she mentioned being a medicine cat, Rosekit looked over at the water, as though maybe some RiverClan cat would pop out of it and tell her what she should do.
The tabby kitten happily picked up the watermint, looking up at Moonshadow to lead the way as her thoughts ran over becoming a medicine cat. If she were a medicine cat apprentice, she wouldn't have to worry about fishing and falling in, even if she did have to reach out for plants that grew in the river. She wouldn't have to learn to fight and kill, but rather to help and heal. Rosekit already knew some of the stuff from being in the medicine cat den for a moon, even though the truth was, Rosekit faked being sick still so she could stay in the den, it was much more exciting than the empty nursery.
Rosekit looked up at Moonshadow, and through her mouthful of watermint, attempted to ask, "Do you have an extra nest in your den for an apprentice?" though it came out a little more as, "Oo you ah uh ecra echst eh nor en or uh afrancis?"

It was true that Moonshadow was a bit upset, but now wasnt the time for her to be acting stern with the kitten. There would come a time when Rosekit would see her stern side. As she began to slowly walk back to camp the black feline's left eye was still closed, the she-cat then began to stop, her eye catching a butterfly fluttering by. Memories flooded her mind. 'Why have you..' a voice echoed in her mind '..you know why' another voiced echoed. It seemed that her surroundings had faded for that moment, the crescent scar on her eye began to feel like it was burning. Her train of thought suddenly halted, the surroundings came back when she heart a different voice in her head, it was Rosekit's gibberish. Both eyes were opened as she looked over to her side to see the young kit, oddly enough even if the medicine cat had been caught in one of her memory spells she had been able to decipher what the kit was trying to say "Yes I do, when I get an apprentice that is, most of the time StarClan helps a medicine cat choose by giving a sign to them." her voice had a different tone to it, almost raspy, like she had been yowling for someone. But flicking her tail foward she began to walk again, hoping the other young she cat would follow. She knew Rosekit would have to face worried parents or even the Deputy for her second offense out alone if they were to find out. Her deep green gaze was tracing each of her paw steps.

Rosekit looked ahead of her, and thought about what StarClan was wanting for her, asking her to do. Maybe she wouldn't be a medicine like she had thought, as Rosekit wasn't sure of any sign from StarClan. She didn't feel as though StarClan had ever tried to connect with her, but she looked skyward, as though they would send her a message at that moment, but maybe they would only send messages at night, when you could see the warriors walk across the sky. Her dim, but still full of hope and promise, to promise for a full, healthy Clan maybe? Or promise for protection, holding back the cats that threatened to hurt those within RiverClan.
The fluffy tabby looked over at Moonshadow, wondering if maybe the medicine cat knew what she had meant, "What sort of sign?" she asked, her voice and look full of curiosity. For all the young kit knew, she had already recieved that type of sign, but had just never been smart enough to notice it, to recognize it for what it really was.
